These Are The Biggest Scratch Wins In The UK

There have been some massive wins on scratch cards in recent times. Below we list the winners’ stories, the winning scratch cards themselves and how much the lucky few earned!

£4 Million with a one in 4,232,860 chance

The biggest ever win on a scratch card so far is a massive £4 million. There have only ever been four £4 million scratch cards in circulation, and an anonymous man in Poole was the second person to win it. Shop owner Ashok Shukla described the moment that the mystery winner revealed the scratch card saying he was “very calm” despite the big win. The gentleman has opted for anonymity but he makes up one of three Dorset based lottery winners.

£3.75 million for a £10 Mega Rich scratch card

In 2014 Simon Rustage, a warehouse stock handler was ecstatic to find out he had won £250,000 on a Mega Rich scratch card only to then discover that the prize money would actually be paid to him every year for 15 years coming to a total of £3.75 million, making this scratch card the second biggest pay out in history. Not bad for a scratch card that originally cost him £10. Despite the massive win, Simon still spent the following day doing a nine hour shift at his work as usual and at the time of winning said he had no plans to move house though did plan to buy a car.

£11.52 in the bank account and £10 in the pocket turned into £1 million

Jackie Murphy, a 61 year old care worked from Shropshire won a million in August 2014 right in the middle of planning her wedding to fiancee John Potter. She bought the winning National Lottery scratch card from News Express in Shawbury. Despite the big win, the couple didn’t change a thing about the day except spending a bit extra on decorations and, of course, introducing a free bar.

£1 million scratch card burning a hole in winner’s pocket

29 year old Richard Carr won a million on a Christmas themed National Lottery scratch card. After scratching off to see his £1 million he reportedly “acted like a lunatic” and then caught the bus to work. His winning scratch card nervously sat in his pocket all day before he could get home to verify the win. He plans to change his job and buy a house nearer his family in Gloucestershire as well as saving up to for his son and family.

Grandad denied £80k because of printing error

On the other side of the coin (or card) Grandfather Tom Gray was denied his apparent £80k win after his matching symbols were said to be a printing error by Camelot. His Lucky Streak scratch card was apparently printed with “some of the game play data missing” because of a fault with one of the print heads. 75 year old Mr Gray intended to split the money between his four children and eight grandchildren.
